The Big Difference is taking on the charts!

Our lovely volunteer Malc and his fantastic single!

Dedicated The Big Difference volunteer — and former frontman of Rufus Stone — Malc Eyers, released our first charity single in May this year.

Aptly named ‘We Can Make a Big Difference’, the single’s poignant lyrics aim to demonstrate the injustice of the very problems The Big Difference is taking a stand against.

Food is scarce, and waste is plentiful.

Swiftly following his start at The Big Difference, Malc jumped from volunteering one day a week to four. After being shocked at the volume of waste from supermarkets, like the rest of our team, he was determined to help.

“We have been blown away by the work being done by such a devoted but small team at The Big Difference. We were amazed by the amounts of waste being sent to landfill by all of the supermarkets and food stores, so we offered to help, originally one day a week, which has now turned into four days.”

After only continuing to hear of the hardships pushed on people by the Cost of Living Crisis, Malc grew restless enough that inspiration struck.

"I’d been making a note of the stories I'd heard about families not having enough food to feed the family regularly. It was beginning to pull at my heartstrings, and I wondered what else I could do. My good buddy Clyde Ward had invited me to put a vocal on a new country track he’d written, and after the session, I mentioned to him that I had these lyrics rolling around in my head, so he asked me to send them to him. A few days and a few email exchanges later, and with the extra help of Clyde's talented son Joe, we had a finished song. It was then that we thought, let’s release it as a single and see if we can’t raise awareness and some funds for The Big Difference."

We Can Make a Big Difference is available on all major streaming platforms and for purchase on iTunes.

All proceeds go towards helping us continue to challenge food poverty in Southampton.
