The Big Difference is a food redistribution charity serving the city of Southampton.
We run two ‘Open to All’ Social Supermarkets, providing access to cheap, quality food across the city — without the need for membership, referrals or proof of circumstance.
How can we help?
For information on accessing our food parcel service, please visit our Referrals page.
we’ve redistributed more than £7.5 million of food since 2020
But the cost of living crisis continues to impact 1/8 of households within the UK…
By the end of 2026, those in the lowest financial quintile will need to spend approximately 85% of their income just to meet the Eatwell Guide’s recommendations for food intake.
Healthy foods are twice as expensive per calorie than those high in salt, sugar and fat. Yet, the latter was only food group to decrease in cost from 2024-25.
The call to action is clear.
